Modern art exhibition «One Way» by Maria Piliya opens in Moscow.
The personal exhibition of Maria Pilia “One Way” will feature new works by the artist in the style of contemporary art. The exposition will be held at the modern exhibition hall "Twin hall" in the center of Moscow from 18 to 30 August with the support of Moscow Abkhaz diaspora.
Maria Davydovna Pilia was born in 1982 in Sukhumi. Lived and studied in Moscow since 10 years old. Graduated from the department of pictorial art at MSAA named by V.I. Surikov and the department of interior design at International School of Design. Ms Pilia is a member of Moscow Artists Union and Artists Union of Abkhazia. She is also a founder of art school for children and adults and the organizer of different charity exhibitions. Her first exhibition was held in 2008. During that period the collection was enlarged by a lot of new paintings of different styles and genres.
‘As every artist, I want to become generally recognized. I hope that I will obtain it while alive’, - says Maria Pilia.
Step by step Maria is getting that recognition. In her years she already is a member of two professional artists unions and her name is getting more and more recognized by famous artists. She is being talked about, and this is the evidence of outstanding work.
‘There are musicians for whom it is enough to create a couple of works and you can see their style. However, a young artist should always be in search for the perfect style, explore every genre. Maria is an explorer, it is very good. She is still very young and has a lot of opportunities,’ – believes Adgur Dzidaria, chairman of the Artists Union of Abkhazia.

August 30, 3pm - official closing of the exhibition, stand-up meal.

Opening hours - from 10:00 am to 21:00 pm

The pipe-organ party performed by Evgenia Krivitskaya, Prof.Dr. of the Moscow Conservatory, accompanied by the Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatory under the direction of Alexander Soloviev , Docent of the Moscow Conservatory. A soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre Svetlana Shilova performs a counter-tenor party.

This program consists of two pieces of the Italian composers who became a legend. One of them is Allegri, who wrote a motet «Miserere». It was considered to be so genius that the partiture was kept in secret and strictly forbidden to be copied. More than a hundred years the piece was available only for the Sistine Chapel musicians.
But once the young Mozart heard the masterpiece, he recorded the music from memory, thus creating a "pirated" copy and giving «Miserere» to the world. The second author is Pergolesi. Having lived only twenty-six years, he became a rebel for his contemporary music lovers. His opera "The Maid Mistress" split the music world into two sides. A famous cantata «Stabat Mater» became the most published work in the XVIII century.

Alisa Gitsba gave an interview about famous Russian opera singer Elena Obraztsova to Vechernyaya Moskva newspaper.
“What can I say? It is awful… She was ill for a long time and died during a surgical operation. A great singer, an actress, a great woman!

Our opera and musical culture has been deprived of this epochal, legendary woman! Thanks to her I turned onto the opera in due season. I had a book about her with her photo as Marina Mnishek.

She was a queenlike, great beauty with the strongest power! At the same time, she was very organic and achieved impossible extremely thin nuances in music-making, combining incompatible features sometimes: an explosive temper and extraordinary appealingness…

She sang until the last day of her life and her vocal was good. We have just celebrated her anniversary and today so awful news came…

I wish you the Kingdom of God, God bless you, great Elena Vasilievna! You will stay a great, all-time opera goddess!

Alisa Gitsba, a seductive soprano does not fear experiments and turns to various music genres.
Dear spectators,
This evening is not just a regular concert. It is the result of my twenty-year way in the music, the high noon, the evening of revelations.

I started my career in Madrigal early music ensemble. Currently, I am an opera soloist. Just here, on the stage of Helicon Opera I have been formed as a singer. This fact explains the concept of this concert. So in the first part of the concert you will hear early music performed by wonderful musicians, my friends and colleagues: Yana Ivanilova, my friend from the time of study in the Russian Academy of Music (RAM) Gnessin and a colleague in Madrigal, La Strvaganza early music ensemble led by notable musician Svetlana Sheveleva and a soloist of our theater Dmitry Khromov.

In the second part of the concert scene from my favorite opera roles will be performed. They have become landmarks in my biography in Helicon Opera Theater. The brilliant orchestra and the chorus of our theater led by a chapel master and young conductor Evgeniy Iljin and a Helicon soloist Alexey Isaev, a baritone.
In conclusion, I want to say thank you very much to all my colleagues for their profound knowledge and professionalism which they divided with me so much during the whole my creative activity.

Thank you very much, all my friends and loved ones, my parents and my family for their patience and moral support which gave me forces and self-confidence.
I want to say special thanks to Dmitry Bertman for the happiness of co-creation during this long period of time and for the opportunity to celebrate my birthday in such manner because there is not a greater joy for an artist than to spend this day on the favorite scene among colleagues and thankful spectators.

With love, your Alisa Gitsba

Alisa Gitsba: I fell in love with Helicon for life

April 10, 2014, 15:37 [AN-online]

In next to no time Helicon Opera Theater will open a series of holiday concerts devoted to its 24th birthday. Alisa Gitsba told her history on the eve of the event.

My tour to Helicon Opera Theater occurred a long time before my work here. Then I even did not suppose that I sing in Helicon, that it is possible in general. I saw the famous The Players by Leoncavallo which was performed in the theater court. Then a good cast was. I listened to Vadim Zaplechny, Elena Kachura, Sergey Yakovlev for the first time. Then I was shocked, really. It was cold but I was interested in it. Spectators felt their involvement. I had a sense that I was a character of the play. And I fell in love with this theater for life.

Two years later, in 1993, I was invited in Helicon Opera for voice trial for the part of Tatiana. I did not take this part but I was hired by the theater. And from that day not only my new acting career began – I received my home, because I was born in Abkhazia. Just in these years there was a war on. My parents were there, I was away from my family, suffered from thought about their fate. And the theater gave me a possibility of a way to another space, another reality. So I spent all my time here, came here not only for the performances in which I was not involved but for no reasons, at any time. It was important to practice with Natasha Arutyunova, (a theater accompanier), just talk. It was not so much a theater, as home for a student of the fourth course who lived in a hostel and had not her family nearby.

- I remember the war in Abkhazia. A shiver went down my spine.
- Yes… And Dmitry Aleksandrovich Bertman is not just a theater art director. He is a loved one, whom you can tell your feelings and joys. He is never apathetic to other people’s problems or grieves. Very trustful and warm mutual relations appeared between us but I cannot allow me to name him just Dima. Never. Dmitry Aleksandrovich only. A loved one.
- You are a busy bee – many concerts, a rich career. I think, it is not so simple to manage?
- Honestly speaking, it is hard. Because a lot of time and forces are spent for preparation and repetitions.
- When I saw I. Bach’s Coffee Cantata with your participation I caught myself thinking that you were so organic, natural in this part that it seemed that it was done easily.
- It is one of my favorite performances. Although I have no unloved parts in this theater at all. But I have a special relation to each performance, like to a child. You cannot love all children equally, you love each one differently. Coffee Cantata is a so love thing which has been in the Helicon repertoire for many years already. My daughter is 16 years old and this performance is so old, too.
- ?
- Yes. Everything is parallel in my life. In 1993 I came to Helicon, in 1994 my family appeared. Since then I have two families which coexist. Sometimes it is a problem, sometimes it is a harmony. Difficult periods happen when I try to keep a foot on both worlds. And the main problem is how to stay on both ones. I have managed to combine for 20 years. It is hard, it’s true. I think that the Lord is gracious to me and leads me by clever ways. So I manage to prejudice neither the interests of my family, nor the interests of the theater.
- How you remember Helicon of the 1990s?
- It was a student atmosphere. Everyone was young. I was a student of the Gnessin Institute. The guys who song with me were older a bit. I respected them very much and trued to learn. I adopted a lot of practices of Natalya Zagorinskaya. She was like a textbook for me. When I saw her for the first time in Human Voice performance by F. Poulenc I could not forget the impression which she made for a long time. Natasha is an enigma so far. She is a bright individual, tricky, with magnetism which is not subject to reason. You can learn from her in relation to the musical sense, the virtu or the manner. She is a reference of a real singer of the Bertman’s theater. I am a quite another person, not such like Natasha.
- Probably this our creative variety is a secret of the country of Heliconia?
- Yes, but I read in an interview that “Bertman as a director is a spectator of Natalya Zagorinskaya”. It is an absolutely genius sentence which gives a key to many questions connected with understanding of art direction and the appearance of Zagorinskaya in Helicon. She is a symbolic figure.
- I remember how Dmitry remembered ruins after a bomb attack in Lebanon through the prism of Natasha’s enormous eyes, through her horror from the reality. It is telling. I really understand what you are talking about. However, what is Helicon now?
It is not the issue that the theater has become more today; our quality has changed. Earlier Helicon was a chamber small theater with huge ambitions and creative potential. Now the golden time came when this potential opened. Surely, we are not lucky with the stage so far to the full extent. We hope that everything will be there. It is painful to speak about it. Every time when I go along Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street I see our construction site… Even the youth which comes to the theater has not got ehough space in the limits we have now. We are short of free space. But performance quality, the musical level have raised in Helicon. It is the case when quantity passed into quality. Seriously.
- I do not argue the point. In a sense our construction is a circumstance which ten times checked the creative team for strength and ability, as mad as it sounds. The theater continued to shine against all odds realizing its potential not only in the small space of New Arbat but on other stages. I mean not only the Tsaritsa by Tukhmanov with the first night in the Kremlin and the Aleksandrinsky Theater…
- - Yes, it is very wise, by the way. And the Mariinsky Theater took Nabucco by Verdi which we performed in France. It is a breathtaking performance directed by Dmitry Bertman also.
- What in your creative direction today?
- - I dream to sing Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera by Verdi. On May 24 I will come out in this part. I wait and prepare for it. On December 5, 2014 my evening devoted to the 20th anniversary of my work in Helicon. I think we will invite a chorus, an orchestra, friends – soloists of our theater.

In connection with death of Svyatoslav Belza, a known music critic, Alisa Gitsba gave an interview to Vechernyaya Moskva newspaper - What a person Svyatoslav Belza was for you?
- We met many times in various music projects. His voice and face became cultural brands of our country. A meeting with him was a pleasure always. He had a relaxed way of interacting, some being toney, funny stories which always had a noble form, combined with subtle humor… It was nostalgia about the gone intelligentsia, the intelligentsia before the revolution, when this aristocraticism was a sign of individual culture. Svyatoslav Belza was a bearer of the passing away and so deficit culture.
- How you accepted the news about his death?
- I turned on news and heard that he has gone. It was painful, really. It was a very sudden news.
- When you saw him last time?
- At the evening in memory of Georgy Gulia, which was organized by his granddaughter we met with Svyatoslav. We often met at the festival in Abkhazia.
- When you met?
- In May 2005 at International Chereshnevy Les Open Art Festival. Then the first night of The Resurrection symphony No. 5 by A. Rybnikov took place. It is hard to imagine for me how to switch on the Kultura TV channel and not to see him there, his smile and cat’s manners. I have not realize that it occurred yet. http://www.vm.ru/news/2014/06/03/ushel-iz-zhizni-muzikoved-i-literaturnij-kritik-svyatoslav-belza-251410.html
